The island of Krk is surrounded by clear and clean sea. Beautiful beaches are of particular interest.
The bathing season starts in spring and lasts till late autumn, thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate.
Krk beaches are full of sounds, smells and colours you must not miss. It is up to you to find a beach that suits you best!!!!Some are hidden in the bays, some are nicely arranged hotel or public beaches, some are pebbled or sandy, rocky… some can only be reached by boat or taking walks on shepherd’s paths along the pine forest. However, all these Krk beaches are suitable for visitors of different affinities.
If you wish to spend your vacation surrounded by your family, practising sports and looking for entertainment, there are a number of bays connected by walking paths offering various facilities such as sports parks, children parks, often located in deep shade and accompanied by a café or restaurant.
If you prefer the isolation or a romantic spot, little bays hide the undisclosed beaches, away from civilization and crowded areas; some of them accessible only from the sea side are the right choice.
As the sun sets, the beaches invite you to take romantic walks or look for entertainment. In search for the latter, look for cafes and clubs in the open, offering entertainment until the early morning hours.
The island of Krk offers beaches for pets and nudist beaches located in natural bays with crystal clear sea bringing the man close to the nature.
The island of Krk is also the island of Blue Flags. There are 15 beaches proud to wave the Blue Flag as the best evidence of clean sea and coast with high standards of services.
The blue flag is much appreciated in today’s world. It is considered one of the main reasons for a growing number of tourists when picking their tourist destination. To have a Blue flag on a beach or marina signifies excellent tourist promotion based on high quality services, a clean sea and shore and beach equipment and facilities.
The international manager of this programme is the Foundation for Environmental Education – FEE which was founded by the European Council in 1981.
The programme currently includes around 30 European and around 10 international countries. At the present time, more than 3000 blue flags have been assigned of which over 2500 for beaches and over 600 for marines.
The award is assigned once a year to all beaches and marines that satisfy a wide range of requirements.
Amongst the 37 blue flags within the Kvarner bay area, as many as 15 of them can be seen flying over the island of Krk.
From a total of 3 blue flags assigned for marines in the Kvarner bay area, one of them was assigned to the Punat Marina. Furthermore, the above mentioned marina has been a blue flag winner every year since 1998.
Care for the environment is under constant and systematic direction. Confirmation of this can be seen by the numerous blue flags which can be seen in the towns of Krk, Baška, Malinska, Njivice, Omišalj,Punat and Marina Punat, Glavotok and Šilo. The island of Krk has a total of 15 blue flags.
The environmental programme for the protection of the sea and the coastal area has, in Europe, been carried out for the last thirteen years under the name of the Blue flag for beaches and marines.
The blue flag is a symbol of a well preserved, safe and pleasant environment dedicated to holidays, entertainment and recreation, of a well elaborated system of ruling the coastal area and of sustainable tourism development. To have a Blue flag on a beach or marina signifies excellent tourist promotion based on high quality services, a clean sea and shore and beach equipment and facilities.
