Walking trails can be divided into “lungomare” (seafront) paths dedicated to the widest circle of walkers, which follow the island’s coast, passing through many bays and small coves, with easy and more difficult walking trails.
Easy walking trails are also dedicated to a wide circle of walkers but they mainly cross the beautiful island's interior.
More demanding trails are dedicated exclusively for active walkers or Alpinists. The attraction of these kinds of trails is the untouched nature and numerous views.
On the island of Krk, 300 kilometres of walking trails have been set up and marked. The above mentioned trails appear as a new tourism product, which are particularly frequented in spring and autumn as lovers of walking, can spend their entire stay on the island of Krk, immersed in nature if they so desire.
The total time predicted for visiting all of the island is 12 days, and daily tours are of between 4 and 6 hours. In fact, to facilitate moving along these walking paths which are well marked, an appropriate map is also available.
Walking trails are also extended through the internal part of the island independently from the main roads or frequent traffic routes and are in contact with the historical, ethnographic and other such curiosities of the island. In this way we are able to provide nature lovers not only recreation, but an encounter with the past, culture and the flora and fauna of the island of Krk.
If you are attracted by mountain peaks, and you enjoy nature and mountain walking, you should certainly go towards the Veli vrh (541 m and the highest of the island's mountain peaks – Obzova 568 metres a.s.l.), which you will reach by following the marked paths from Punat and Baška bay. The peace, calm, and the enchanting view, is the shortest description of the impression you will get after climbing the Veli vrh or the Obzova.
Walking for 200 metres along Glagolitic path from the village of Gabonjin (close to Dobrinj) towards the small church of St.Peter, and Baška’s Glagolitic path, you will come back relaxed and enriched with knowledge of the Glagolithic alphabet.
You should certainly visit the “Putevima Dobrinjštine”alpine beltway, a mountain trail of about 20 kilometres long. With eight control points it passes through the area of various plant species and picturesque villages (beginning with the village of Šilo going towards Dobrinj and then back down to Šilo).
We try to attract guests and nature and action holiday lovers with numerous events to discover the island of Krk's hiking trails. The event known as “A walking tour through Krk’s asparagus trails” is held in April, it includes more hours of walking and a boat drive, and at the end of the adventure we make fried eggs with 1002 eggs with asparagus whose healing properties have been known for 3000 years.
“I love the autumn – Walk in the autumn” is an event organized during “European mobility week” and includes a small market of agricultural and autochthonous eco-ethnological products from the island of Krk as well as sports equipment used for walking and organized walking trips with its start and finish on Krk’s waterfront.
KRK'S BELTWAY is a circular path which connects all the marked points of the walking trail. Since the island of Krk is full of walking and field trails...we came up with the idea of gathering them together into one unit, so as to reach one island village from the other by marked paths and so increase the total amount of trail kilometres.
